Torrefaction Test Programs

Are you interested in knowing whether your feedstock is suitable for torrefaction? Blackwood has the testing facility and knowledge base available to cost-effectively conduct feedstock test programs.

Beyond regular wood chips and forest residues, there is an enormous opportunity for torrefaction as a pre-treatment technology in the transformation of agro residues into high grade solid biofuel. Blackwood has tested many types of feedstocks for its customers in order to determine their torrefaction behavior. Such test programs also result in knowledge about the fuel specifications of the torrefied end-product. We also include a feedstock test program in most of our feasibility studies and FEED engineering.

If you want to learn more about how we can help you to test your feedstock, please contact us.

Blackwood Testing Facility in Thailand

All torrefaction test programs are executed at Blackwood’s testing facility in Ratchaburi, Thailand. Blackwood has its own laboratory for standard analyses, such as moisture content, ash content, volatile content, particle size distribution and calorific value. For other analyses or if the client requests an independent lab analysis, we work with leading independent laboratories in the field of biomass.

Besides feedstock testing for clients and feasibility or engineering assignments, Blackwood is also regularly involved in national and international R&D programs. Such programs focus on the development of applications for torrefied biomass.

Blackwood Technology supports R&D programs through:

  • Access to the accumulated torrefaction know-how of the Blackwood team
  • Execution of biomass torrefaction test programs in our testing facility
  • Full scale simulation of the torrefaction process with proprietary computer models
  • Analysis and interpretation of test results
