Steel and metal production

In steel and base metal production processes various types of metallurgical coal are used. PCI coal is used for providing the necessary thermal energy in the blast furnace, while coking coal is used to produce cokes, which is used as a reducing agent to transform the metal ore in pure metal.

Blackwood’s SuperBlack® biocarbon, with a higher fixed carbon level and reduced volatile level, can be used as a substitute for PCI coal and cokes. Due to the flexibility of the FlashTor® technology, different grades of biocarbon can be produced according to the end-user’s requirements.
